Class Description:

Fascia Flossing (TM Bonnie Crotzer) is a somatic movement that increases mobility, health of our tissues, ease in the body, and the capacity for strength and flexibility. In Fascia Flossing, we pandiculate (imagine a yawning cat, or stretching dog), meaning we engage muscles while elongating, which in turn provides a shearing force to our fascia, which invites our bodies to break up excessive adhesions and healthily repair our fascia, similar to flossing the plaque off of your teeth with dental floss, but for your flesh and more pleasurable. Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds all of our muscles, bones, and organs and it serves as a connector, separator, communicator and more. When our fascia is healthy, it supports healthy muscles, bones, lymph and all systems.Fascia Flossing is informed by both Western medicine, anatomy, physical therapy practices and East Asian knowledge of yoga and Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM). The pathways of fascia align with the channels for chi in TEAM. The most benefit will come from coming to the whole series, but you are welcome to drop in to any session. While not exactly stretching, fascia flossing can help tight people and places develop more flexibility. On the other hand, hypermobile bodies and tissues can build more capacity to contract their muscles and stabilize their joints.
- Please bring the following supplies to support this practice:
– yoga mat (or bring/wear grippy songs or prepare to go barefoot for friction if you don’t have a yoga mat)
-pillow (or bring a puffy coat or cushiony sweatshirt and/or knee pads to protect your knees and make other bolsters/cushions)
-2 yoga blocks (or, two hardback books or waterbottles of a similar size)
