Description
An exploration of moving efficiently and confidently through the floor. Students practice spirals, slides, rolls, weight transfers, inversions, and transitions, learning how to use momentum and skeletal alignment to create fluid, connected movement.
This all-level movement class explores the interplay between contemporary floorwork and capoeira-influenced acrobatics. Class begins with a warm-up of breathwork and mobility work as tools to assess and deepen our body awareness and movement capacity for the rest of class. After the warm-up, we will research principles of spirals, curves, and circles as the underlying influence of acrobatic and floorwork forms. Alex will guide you through scaleable versions of acrobatic and floorwork such as cartwheels, macaco, rolls, aerial variations, and transitions in and out of the floor. This class will have choreographic elements, but Alex strongly encourages personal research and improvisation with the tools provided during the class to enrich integration and creativity. Some experience with floorwork or having a basic cartwheel is helpful but not necessary. Expect to challenge your upper body strength, dynamic conditioning, and off-axis trajectories.
